2 Chronicles 10

1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem, because all Israel were in Shechem, to appoint him king.
2 When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard this, he was in Egypt, where he fled from King Solomon; Jeroboam returned from Egypt.
3 And they sent and called him; And Jeroboam and all Israel came, and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
4 Your father has imposed a heavy yoke on us; But you will ease your father's cruel work and the heavy yoke he imposed on us, and we will serve you.
5 And he said unto them [Rehoboam]: Come again to me in three days. And the people broke up.
6th And King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who stood before Solomon his father, while he was alive, and said: How do you advise to answer this people?
7th They said to him, "If you will be kind to this people and please them and you will speak kindly to them, they will be your slaves for all days."
8 But he left the council of elders, which they gave him, and began to consult with the young men who grew up with him, who were before him;
9 And he said to them, "What do you advise me to answer this people who said to me this way: lighten the yoke that your father imposed on us?"
10 And the young men who grew up with him said to him: and they said: Thus shalt thou say unto the people that said unto thee, Thy father hath cast a heavy yoke upon us, and thou shalt make us light: so tell them: my little finger is thicker than my father's loins.
eleven My father has laid upon you a heavy yoke, and I will increase your yoke; My father punished you with whips, and I [I will beat you] with scorpions.

12 And Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king commanded, saying, Come again to me in three days.
13 Then the king answered them harshly, for King Rehoboam left the council of the elders, and spoke to them on the advice of the young men:
14 My father put a heavy yoke on you, and I will increase it; My father punished you with whips, and I [I will beat you] with scorpions.
15 And the king did not listen to the people, because it was so arranged from God to fulfill His word to the Lord, which He spoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam, the son of Nebat.
16 When all Israel saw that the king was not listening to him, the people answered the king, saying, "What is our portion in David?" We have no share in the son of Jesse; On their tents, Israel! Now know your home, David. And all the men of Israel parted for their tents.
17th Only the sons of Israel, who dwelt in the cities of Judah, remained king of Rehoboam.
18 And King Rehoboam sent Adoniram, the captain of the tribute, and the sons of Israel threw stones at him, and he died. And King Rehoboam hastened to mount a chariot to flee to Jerusalem.
19 Thus the Israelites rebelled from the house of David until this day.
