2 Kings 18

1 And David numbered the people that were with him, and set over them captains of thousands and captains.
2 And David sent the people - a third part under the hand of Joab, a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I'll go with you.
3 But the people answered, Thou shalt not go; for if we flee away, they will not care for us; and if half of us die, will they care for; and you're the same one that we have ten thousand; So for us, better that thou succor us out of the city.
4 And the king said unto them, What seemeth you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.
5 And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying: Save me the boy Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.
6 And the people went out into the field against Israel, and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.
7 And the people of Israel were struck by the servants of David; was there a great slaughter that day --porazheny twenty thousand [people].
8 The battle spread throughout the country, and the forest devoured more people than the sword devoured that day.

9 And Absalom met the servants of David; he was a mule. When the mule ran with him under the branches of a great oak, [Absalom] tangled in her hair and oak branches hanging between heaven and earth, and the mule, the former under him he ran away.
10 And certain man saw it and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.
eleven And Joab said to the man, to have survived this, Behold, thou hast seen; why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? I would have given you ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.
12 And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive my hands a thousand pieces of silver, and then I would not have raised a hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, `I have kept the young man Absalom ';
13 and if I had acted differently with mine own life, it would not have disappeared from the king, and you also have rebelled against me.
14 Then said Joab, I may not tarry with thee. And he took three darts in his hands and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was still alive in the oak.
15 And Absalom was surrounded by ten young men, Joab's squires, and struck and killed him.
16 And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people.
17 And they took Absalom, and cast him into a deep pit in the woods, and laid a very great heap of stones over him. And all Israel fled, each to his tent.
18 Now Absalom in his life he took and put a monument in the king's dale; for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance. And he called the pillar after his own name. And it's called `monument of Absalom 'unto this day.

19 Ahimaaz, son of Zadok, said to Joab, let me escape, informing the king that the Lord delivered him to his court at the hands of his enemies.
20 But Joab said to him, will not you tidings today; is known for another day, but not today, because the king's son is dead.
21 And Joab said to Cushi, Go tell the king what you have seen. And Cushi bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.
22 But Ahimaaz, son of Zadok, said to Joab, and insisted that whatever it was, but I'll run for Husiem. Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son? do not bring you good news.
23 [Howsoever, said he]: so be it, but I run. And said unto him, [Joab], Run. And Ahimaaz ran by the way, and overran Cushi.
24 And David sat between the two gates. And the watchman went up to the roof over the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes, saw, and behold a man running alone.
25 And the watchman called and told the king. And the king said, if one is tidings in his mouth. And he came nearer and nearer.
26 The watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called unto the gatekeeper, Behold, another man running alone. The king said, and it's - messenger.
27 The watchman said, I see the first gait, similar to the gait of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, is a good man and comes with good tidings.
28 And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king. And the king bowed his face to the ground and said, Blessed be the LORD your God, who betrayed the people who raised their hand against my lord the king!
29 And the king said: Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz said, I saw a great tumult when Joab sent the tsar's servant, your servant; but I do not know that [there] was.
thirty And the king said, Turn aside, and stand here. He walked away and began.
31 Here, I come and Hushai. And Cushi answered the good news to my lord the king! The Lord revealed the truth to you now at the disposal of the hands of all that rose up against you.
32 And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee same as that young man!
33 And the king was, and went to the chamber over the gate, and wept, and when he went, thus he said: O my son Absalom! my son, my son Absalom! oh that I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
