Acts of the Apostles 11

Previous chapter Index Next chapter
The apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles also received the word of God.
And when Peter came to Jerusalem, the circumcision reproached him,
Saying: "You went to uncircumcised people and ate with them."
Peter began to retell them in order, saying:
In the city of Joppa I prayed, and in a frenzy saw a vision: some vessel came down, like a large canvas, for four corners coming down from heaven, and descended to me.
th I looked into it and, looking at it, I saw four-legged earth animals, reptiles and birds of the sky.
th And I heard a voice saying to me: Arise, Peter, kill and eat.
I said, no, Lord, nothing bad or unclean has ever entered my mouth.
And the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
It was thrice, and again everything was up in the sky.
eleven And so, at that very hour, three people stood in front of the house I was in, sent from Caesarea to me.
The Spirit told me to go with them, not doubting anything. Come with me, and these six brothers, and we came to the house of that man.
He told us how he saw in his house the Angel (the saint) who became and said to him: send people to Joppa and call Simon, called Peter;
He will tell you the words with which you and your whole house will be saved.
When I began to speak, the Holy Spirit descended on them, as well as on us in the beginning.
Then I remembered the word of the Lord, as He said: "John baptized with water, and you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
th So, if God gave them the same gift as we, who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, then who am I to prevent God?
After hearing this, they calmed down and glorified God, saying: Apparently, God gave repentance to the Gentiles also.

Meanwhile, those who were scattered from the persecution that followed Stephen went to Phenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, preaching no one to anyone other than the Jews.
There were some of them, Cyprians and Cyrenians, who, when they came to Antioch, spoke to the Greeks, preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus.
And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed, and turned to the Lord.
Then came the rumor about this before the church of Jerusalem, and instructed Barnabas to go to Antioch.
When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced and urged everyone to hold on to the Lord with a sincere heart;
For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith. And the people were full of people to the Lord.
Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to seek Saul and, having found him, brought him to Antioch.
th For a whole year they gathered in the church and taught a considerable number of people, and the disciples in Antioch for the first time began to be called Christians.

th In those days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch.
And one of them, named Agabus, rose up, foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine throughout the universe, which was under Caesar Claudius.
Then the disciples laid, each according to his wealth, to send a benefit to the brethren who lived in Judea,
thirty Which they did, sending [the collected ones] to the elders through Barnabas and Saul.
