Job 2

Previous chapter Index Next chapter
There was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord; between them, and Satan came to present themselves before the Lord.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence come you? Then Satan answered the Lord and said, I have walked the earth, and walked through it.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job? There is no one like him in the earth, a man blameless and upright, fearing God and turning away from evil, and until now firm in his integrity; and you're excited me against him, to destroy him without cause.
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, but for his life give a person all that he has;
But stretch out Your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, whether he --blagoslovit thee?
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.

So Satan went forth from before the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.
And he took a potsherd to scrape himself withal, and sat in ashes.
Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God and die. (1)
But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish do we receive good from God, and evil will not take? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

eleven And three friends heard about Job's all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his place: Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, and agreed to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.
And raising his eyes from afar, they did not recognize him; and lifted up his voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights; and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.
