3 Kings 22

Previous chapter Index

1 They lived for three years, and there was no war between Syria and Israel.
2 In the third year Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went to the king of Israel.
3 And the king of Israel said to his servants, "Do you know that Ramoth of Gilead is ours?" But we have been silent for so long, and we do not take it from the hand of the king of Syria.
4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to war against Ramoth-gilead?" And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Like you, so I; As your people, and my people; Like your horses, and my horses.
5 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel: Ask today what the Lord will say.
6th And the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go to Ramoth-gilead to war, or not? They said: Go, the Lord will deliver him into the hands of the king.
7th And Jehoshaphat said, Is not there a prophet of the Lord here yet, that we may inquire of the Lord through him?
8 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is one more man through whom you can inquire of the Lord, but I do not love him, for he does not prophesy of me good, but only evil, is Micaiah the son of Imlah. And Jehoshaphat said: "Do not say so, King."
9 And the king of Israel called out a certain eunuch, and said: Go quickly after Micah, the son of Imlah.
10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat every one in his seat, clothed in royal clothes, in the square at the gates of Samaria, and all the prophets prophesied before them.
eleven And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made iron horns, and said, Thus saith the LORD: Thou shalt smite the Syrians unto their destruction.
12 And all the prophets prophesied the same, saying: Go to Ramoth Gilead, there will be success, the Lord will deliver it into the king's hand.
13 The messenger, who went to call Micaiah, said to him: "Look, the prophets speak unanimously [foretold] the good king; Let your word also be according to the word of each of them; Speak and you are good.
14 And Micaiah said, As the Lord liveth! I will speak what the Lord will say to me.

15 And he came to the king. The king said to him: Micah! Whether to go to us war on Рамоф Галаадский, or not? And he said to him: Go, there will be success, the Lord will betray [him] into the hand of the king.
16 And the king said unto him, I adjure you again and again, lest thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord.
17th And he said: I see all Israel scattered over the mountains, like sheep, who have no shepherd. And the LORD said, They have no commander, let them return with their peace to their own house.
18 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Have I not told you that he does not prophesy of me good, but only evil?
19 And he said [Micah]: Hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven stood by him, on his right and on his left;
20 And the Lord said: Who would have persuaded Ahab that he would go and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one spoke like this, another spoke differently;
21 And one spirit came forth, stood before the Lord, and said, I will bow him down. And the LORD said to him, "What?"
22 He said: I will go out and become a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. [The Lord] said: Thou shalt persuade him, and do it; Go and do it.
23 And now, the Lord has let the spirit of the deceit into the mouth of all these of your prophets; But the Lord spoke evil of you.
24 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and, striking Micaiah on the cheek, said: How, has the Spirit of the Lord departed from me to speak in you?
25 And Micah said: Behold, you will see [this] the day you will run from one room to another to hide,
26th And the king of Israel said: Take Micaiah, and take him to Amon the governor, and to Joash the son of the king,
27th And say: Thus saith the king: Put this in prison, and feed it meekly with bread, and with scarce water, until I return in peace.
28 And Micaiah said, If you return in peace, it is not the Lord who spoke through me. And he said: Hear, all the people!

29 And the king of Israel went up, and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, to Ramothgilead.
thirty And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will change my clothes and go into battle, and put on your garments." And the king of Israel changed his clothes, and went into battle.
31 The king of Syria commanded the captains of the chariots, which he had thirty-two, saying: "Do not fight with either the small or the great, but only with one king of Israel."
32 The captains of the chariots, when they saw Jehoshaphat, thought, `This is the king of Israel, 'and they turned on him to fight [with him]. And Jehoshaphat cried out.
33 The captains of the chariots, seeing that it was not the king of Israel, turned from him.
34 And one man accidentally pulled onions and wounded the king of Israel through the seams of the armor. And he said to his driver: turn back and take me out of the army, for I am wounded.
35 But the battle was strengthened that day, and the king stood in a chariot against the Syrians, and died in the evening, and blood was thrown into the chariot from the wound.
36 And it was proclaimed throughout the camp at the coming of the sun: everyone go to their own city, each to their own land!
37 And the king died, and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the king in Samaria.
38 And they washed the chariot in the pond of Samaria, and the dogs licked his blood, and they washed the harlots, according to the word of the Lord, which He spake.
39 The rest of the acts of Ahab, all that he did, and the house of ivory that he built, and all the cities he built, are described in the annals of the kings of Israel.
40 And Ahab slept with his fathers, and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

41 Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah, the daughter of Salahel.
43 He walked all the way of his father Asa, did not descend from him, doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord. Only heights were not abolished; The people still made sacrifices and incense in the high places.
44 Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
45 The rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat and his exploits, which he accomplished, and how he fought, are described in the annals of the kings of Judah.
46 And the remnant of the fornicators, which were left in the days of his father Asa, he destroyed from the earth.
47 In Edom, then there was no king; [Was] the viceroy of the king.
48 Jehoshaphat made ships on the sea to go to Ophir for gold; But they did not reach, because they crashed in Ezion-Gaver.
49 Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "Let my servants go with your servants on ships." But Jehoshaphat disagreed.
50 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. And Joram his son reigned in his stead.
51 Ahaziah, the son of Ahab, reigned over Israel in Samaria, in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years,
52 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:
53 He served Baal and worshiped him and angered the Lord God of Israel with all that his father had done.
