And David came to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee? |

And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king instructed me to the matter and said to me, `Let no man know of what I sent you and that you requested '; so the people I left at a certain place; |

So, what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread, or what there is. |

And the priest answered David, saying: I have no common bread at hand, but there is holy bread; if only people [your] abstained from women! |

And David answered the priest and said to him, when we women did not either yesterday or the day before, from the time I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and if the road is unclean, it [bread] is still pure in the blood vessels. |

And the priest gave him holy bread; for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from the face of the Lord, that by removing them put hot bread. |

It was the day before the Lord is one of the servants of Saul, whose name was Doeg, the Edomite, chief of Saul's herdsmen. |

And David said to Ahimelech, do not you have here at hand a spear or sword? because I did not take with him neither sword nor my weapons, because the king's business required haste. |

And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah, is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you want, take it; no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it to me.

And David arose and fled that day from Saul and went to Achish the king of Gath. |

And Achish said to his servants: Is not this David king of the land? did they not sing to him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David - tens of thousands'? |

David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath. |

And he changed his behavior before them, and pretended to be mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard. |

|
And Achish said to his servants, you see the man is mad; Why have you brought him to me? |
15
|
Have I need of madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house? |
