At that time, the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said to David: Know thou that thou go with me to battle, thou and thy men. |

And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of my head all the time. |

And Samuel died, and all Israel mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. Saul had expelled the magicians and soothsayers out of the country. |

And the Philistines gathered themselves and came and pitched in Shunem; and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa. |

And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. |

And when Saul inquired of the Lord; but the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
|

|
Then said Saul unto his servants, I syschite woman sorceress, and I go to her and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, here's a woman at Endor witch. |

|
And Saul took off his clothes and put on others, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night. And he said, [Saul], I pray thee, me and bring me whom I shall name to you. |

|
But the woman said to him, you know what Saul has done, how he drove out of the country wizards and soothsayers; Why are you a snare for my soul to ruin me? |

And Saul swore to her by the Lord, saying: As the Lord liveth! no punishment happen to thee for this thing. |

Then the woman said, Whom shall I bring you? And he said: Bring me up Samuel. |

And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried aloud; and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? you - Saul. |

|
And the king said unto her, Fear not; what do you see? And the woman said: I see a god coming up out of the earth. |
14
|
What he views? --sprosil she [Saul]. She said out of the land of an old husband, dressed in a long robe. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and fell on his face to the ground and worshiped.

|
And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has departed from me and no longer answers me either through prophets or by dreams; therefore I have called thee, that thou has taught me what to do. |

|
And Samuel said, Why do you ask me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy? |
17
|
The Lord will do what he spoke by me; The Lord has torn the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to your neighbor, David. |
18
|
Since you did not obey the voice of the Lord and did not fulfill his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day. |
19
|
And the Lord will deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines tomorrow thou and thy sons [be] with me, and the camp of Israel, the LORD will deliver into the hands of the Philistines.

|
Then Saul fell all along on the earth, for very frightened words of Samuel; moreover, and there was no strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all that day and all night. |

|
And the woman came to Saul, and saw that he was very frightened, and said, Behold, thy maidservant obeyed thy voice, and put my life in danger and has performed his commandment, that you gave me; |
22
|
Now I ask, hearken thou also unto the voice of thine handmaid, I will offer you a piece of bread before thee; and in thee fortress, when you go on a journey. |

But he refused and said, I will not eat. And they urged him, his servants and also the woman; and he hearkened unto their voice, and rose from the ground and sat on the bed. |
24
|
And the woman had a fat calf in the house, and she hastened and killed it, and took flour, kneaded it and baked unleavened bread, |
25
|
and he suggested that Saul and his servant, and they ate, and rose up, and went away that night. |
