In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah. |
2
Three years he reigned in Jerusalem; His mother's name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam. |
3
And Abijah set the battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam opposed him to the war with eight hundred thousand men, [as] choice, brave. |
4
And Abijah Tsemaraimskoy on top of the mountain, one of the mountains of Ephraim, and said, Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel! |
5
Did you know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt? |
6
Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, and rebelled against his lord. |
7
And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon; When Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them. |
8
And now you think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David, [because] a great multitude, and with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods. |
9
Have ye not cast out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the peoples of [other] lands? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, is made [you] a priest gods. |
10
And we - the Lord our God; we did not leave him, and serve as priests to the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites when [his] case. |
eleven
And they burn to the Lord burnt offerings every morning and evening, and incense, and believe the rows of bread on the table clean, and [lit] gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the Lord our God, and you are left Him. |
12
So, we headed God, and His priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. The children of Israel! do not fight with the Lord God of your fathers, for you will not succeed.
13
But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them, so that [he] [it] were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them. |
14
And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle in front and behind; and they cried to the Lord, and the priests blew the trumpets. |
15
And Judah shouted. And when Judah shouted, God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. |
16
And the children of Israel fled from Judah, and God delivered them into their hand. |
17
And they made Abijah and his people with a great slaughter; and fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men. |
18
Thus the children of Israel, and have children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers. |
19
And Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took its towns, Bethel and the towns thereof, and Ieshanu and dependent city, and Ephron and her towns. |
20
Neither did Jeroboam in force in the days of Abijah. And the LORD struck him, and he died. |
21
Abijah waxed mighty, and he took fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters. |
22
Rest of the acts of Abijah, and his actions and words are described in the story of the prophet Iddo. |
