After such deeds and loyalty, Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, came and entered Judah, and besieged the fortified cities, and thought to tear them away to himself. |
2
When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come with the intention of fighting against Jerusalem, |
3
Then he decided to fill up with his princes and with his military men the sources of water outside the city, and they helped him. |
4
And a great crowd gathered together, and they showered all the springs and the flood that flowed throughout the country, saying: "Let not the kings of Assyria come by a lot of water." |
5
And he took courage, and restored all the wall that fell down, and lifted her up to the tower, and from the outside [built] another wall, and fortified Millo in the city of David, and prepared many weapons and shields. |
6th
And he set captains over the people, and gathered them together to him in the square at the gate of the city, and spoke to their heart, and said: |
7th
Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid or fear the king of Assyria and all the multitude that is with him, because he is with us more than with him; |
8
With him a carnal muscle, but with us the Lord our God, to help us and fight on our battles. And the people was strengthened by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9
After this, Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, sent his servants to Jerusalem, - he stood against Lachish, and all his strength with him, - to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all the Jews that are in Jerusalem, saying: |
10
So says Sennacherib, king of Assyria: what do you hope and sit in the fortress in Jerusalem? |
eleven
Do not Hezekiah deceive you, that he might put you to death by hunger and thirst, saying: The Lord our God will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria? |
12
Did not Hezekiah break his high places and his altars, and said to Judah and Jerusalem: Before the altar, worship one and burn incense on it? |
13
Do you not know what I and my fathers did to all the peoples of the earth? Could the gods of the peoples of the earth have been able to save their land from my hand? |
14
Who among all the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my fathers could save his people from my hand? How can your God save you from my hand? |
15
Now do not let Hezekiah deceive you and reject you in this way; Do not believe him: if not a single god of any people and kingdom could power to save his people from my hand and from the hands of my fathers, your God will not save you from my hand either. |
16
And his servants spoke much against the Lord God, and against Hezekiah his servant. |
17th
And he wrote letters, [in which] he reproached the Lord God of Israel and spoke such words against him: "As the gods of the peoples of the earth have not delivered their peoples from my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah save his people from my hand." |
18
And they cried with a loud voice in the language of Judah to the people of Jerusalem, who was on the wall to frighten him and frighten him, and to take the city. |
19
And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as the gods of the peoples of the earth, the products of the hands of men. |
20
And King Hezekiah and Isaiah the son of Amoz prayed, the prophet, and cried to heaven. |
21
And the Lord sent an angel, and he destroyed all the brave and superior and commanding in the army of the king of Assyria. And he returned with shame to his own land; And when he came to the house of his god, those who came out of his loins struck him with a sword. |
22
So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all, and protected them from everywhere. |
23
Then many offered gifts to the Lord in Jerusalem and expensive things of Hezekiah, king of Judah. And he was exalted after this in the eyes of all nations.
24
In those days Hezekiah fell ill with death. And he prayed to the Lord, and He heard him and gave him a sign. |
25
But Hezekiah did not give back for the benefits that he had received, for his heart was lifted up. And there was anger against him [and God] against Judah and Jerusalem. |
26th
But as Hezekiah humbled himself in the pride of his heart, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the wrath of the LORD did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah. |
27th
And Hezekiah had much wealth and glory, and he made storehouses for him for silver and gold, and precious stones, and for fragrances and shields, and for all precious vessels; |
28
And pantries for works [of the earth], for bread, wine and oil, and stalls for all kinds of cattle, and yards for the herds. |
29
He built the city himself. And the herds of small and large cattle [were] [he] has a lot, because God gave him a very large property. |
thirty
He, Hezekiah, locked the upper channel of the waters of Geon and led them down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah did well in all his work. |
31
Only with the ambassadors of the kings of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire about the sign that was on earth, God left him to test it and open all that is in his heart. |
32
Other acts of Hezekiah and his virtues are described in the vision of Isaiah the son of Amos, the prophet, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. |
33
And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him over the tombs of the sons of David, and all the Jews and the inhabitants of Jerusalem repaid him after his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead. |
