And we turned and went into the wilderness to the Red Sea, as the Lord told me, and we walked around the mountain of Seir for a long time. |
2
And the Lord said to me, saying, |
3
You must walk around this mountain, turn to the north; |
4
And command the people, and say, Ye shall pass through the borders of your brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and they shall fear you. But beware |
5
To begin a war with them, for I will not give you their land on the soles of my feet, for I have given Mount Seir to Esau's possession; |
6th
Buy food from them for money and eat; And buy water from them for money and drink; |
7th
For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands, he has protected you during your journey through this great wilderness; Behold, the LORD thy God is with thee forty years; You did not lack anything.
8
And we passed by our brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, by the way of the plain, from Elath and Ezion-Haver, and turned and walked to the wilderness of Moab. |
9
And the Lord said to me: Do not enter into conflict with Moab and do not start a war with them; For I will not give thee anything of his land for a possession, because I have given Ar to the sons of Lot; |
10
First there lived Emins, a people great, numerous and high, like the Anak [sons] |
eleven
And they were reckoned among the Rephaim as the Anakims; The Moabites also call them the Emims; |
12
But on Seir lived before Horace; But the sons of Esau drove them out and destroyed them from their faces and settled in their place - as Israel did with the land of its heritage, which the Lord gave them; |
13
Now get up and go through the valley of Zared. And we passed the valley of Zared. |
14
Since we went to Kadesh-barnea and how we passed the valley of Zared, [passed] thirty-eight years, and we have transferred from the camp of the whole family of those who go to war, as the Lord swore to them; |
15
And the hand of the Lord was upon them, that they might destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were extinct. |
16
When all the people who went to war were extinct and died out from among the people, |
17th
Then the Lord spoke to me, saying: |
18
You pass now past the limits of Moab, past Ara, |
19
And he drew near to the children of Ammon; Do not enter into hostility with them, and do not start wars with them, for I will not give you anything from the land of the sons of Ammon to the possession, because I gave it to the sons of Lot; |
20
And she was considered the land of the Rephaim; First the Rephaim lived on it; The Ammonites also call them Zamzumim; |
21
A great nation, great and high, like the Anakims, and the LORD destroyed them before them, and they drove them out, and dwelt in their place, |
22
As He did for the sons of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, destroying the Horites before them, and they drove them out, and settled in their place, and [live] to this day; |
23
And the Avvites, who lived in the villages to Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came from Kaftor, destroyed and settled in their place.
24
Stand up, set off and pass the flow of the Arnon; Behold, I have delivered Sihon into your hand, the king of Heshbon, the Amorite, and his land; Begin to take possession of it, and wage war with it; |
25
From this day forth, I will begin to spread fear and terror before you to the nations under the whole sky; Those who hear about you, will tremble and be horrified at you. |
26th
And I sent messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with peaceable words, saying, |
27th
Let me pass through your land; I will go along the road, I will not go to the right or to the left; |
28
I will eat food for money, and I will eat, and give me water for drinking for silver, and I will drink, only with my feet I will pass-- |
29
As the children of Esau who lived in Seir did to me, and the Moabites living in Ara, until I cross the Jordan into the land that the Lord our God gives us. |
thirty
But Sihon king of Heshbon did not consent to let us pass through his land, because the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart stubborn to betray him in your hand, as is evident today. |
31
And the Lord said to me: Behold, I begin to deliver Sihon and his land to you; Begin to take possession of his land. |
32
And Sihon, with all his people, came out against us in the battle against Jahaz; |
33
And the LORD our God delivered him into our hands, and we smote him and his sons and all his people, |
34
And they took at that time all his cities, and they utterly destroyed all the cities, men and women and children, left no one alive; |
35
Only we took our prey for their livestock and captured them in the cities we took. |
36
From Aroer, which is on the bank of the stream of Arnon, and from the city that is in the valley, unto Gilead, there was not a city that was unapproachable to us: all the LORD our God delivered [into our hands]. |
37
Only to the land of the children of Ammon you did not approach, nor to the places near Jabbok, nor to the cities on the mountain, nor to all that the Lord our God did not command us. |
