And it was to me the word of the Lord: |
2
Son of man! a riddle, and tell a parable to the house of Israel. |
3
Say, Thus saith the Lord GOD: A great eagle with great wings, long feathers, fluffy, mottled, I came to Lebanon and took the top of the cedar, |
4
cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traders in the city put it; |
5
and he took of the seed of the land, and planted the seed on the ground, placed it by great waters, as a willow tree. |
6
And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs. |
7
And there was another eagle with great wings and many feathers; and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation. |
8
It was planted in good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches and fruit, a goodly vine. |
9
Say, Thus saith the Lord God: Shall it prosper? Do not pull up its roots, and its fruit would stop, that it wither? all the young the leaves of her withered. And no great power or many people to pluck it up by its roots. |
10
And now, being planted, shall it prosper? Does it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? shall wither in the furrows where it grew. |

And it was to me the word of the Lord: |
12
Say to the rebellious house: Do not you know what that means? --Skazhi Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and took its king and princes, and led them with him to Babylon. |
13
And he took [another] of the royal family, and a covenant with him, and ordered him to curse, and took the mighty of the land with him, |
14
That the kingdom might be base, that could not get up, that by keeping his covenant it might stand. |
15
But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors to Egypt, that they might give him horses and many people. Will he succeed? It will survive the one who does it? He break the covenant and yet escape? |
16
As I live, saith the Lord GOD: In the seat of the king who made him king, and that oath he despised, and whose covenant with him, he would die with him in Babylon. |
17
With great power, and with many people, Pharaoh will not do anything for him in the war, when the forts, to cut off many persons shaft will be poured and built. |
18
He despised the oath by breaking the covenant, and behold, gave his hand and did all this; he shall not escape. |
19
Therefore thus saith the Lord God: As I live! My oath that he has despised, and my covenant that he has broken, I will set on his head. |
20
And I will spread my net upon him, and will be caught in my snare; and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him for his treachery against me. |
21
And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and remain shall be scattered to every wind; and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.
22
Thus says the Lord God: I will also take the top of the high cedar, and will set it; from the top of his tear off a tender one, and will plant it on a high and lofty mountain. |
23
On the high mountain of Israel I will plant it, and the boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar, and will live under it all birds of every wing shall dwell in the shadow of its branches. |
24
And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, low tree, dry up the green tree and dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it. |
