And the LORD said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee;
and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be blessed;
I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and in thee shall all families of the earth.

So Abram went, as the Lord said to him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the souls which they had gotten in Haran; and went out to go into the land of Canaan; and came to the land of Canaan.

And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. Then in the land [lived] the Canaanites.
And the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land. And made [it] there an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
From there he moved to the mountain on the east of Bethel; and pitched his tent [so that from him] Bethel [was] the west, and Ai on the east; and he built there an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the Lord.
And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

And there was a famine in the land. And Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there, because the famine was severe in the land.
eleven When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, Behold, I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance;
and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, This is his wife; and they will kill me but will let you live;
Say, you are my sister, that I was good for you, and shall live because of thee my soul.

And it was, when Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw the woman that she was very beautiful;
We saw it, and the princes of Pharaoh, and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
And he entreated Abram well for her sake; and he had sheep and oxen and donkeys and male and female slaves, and camels.
But the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house because of Sarai, Abram's wife.
And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What have you done to me? Why not tell me that she was your wife?
Why did you say, She is my sister? and I took her to be his wife. And now behold thy wife; Take it and go.
And he gave it to Pharaoh commanded his men, and followed him, and his wife, and all that he had.
