Hebrews 5

Previous chapter Index Next chapter

For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in the service of God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins,
Who can have compassion ignorant and erring, for that he himself is compassed with infirmity,
And therefore he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to bring [sacrifices] for sins.
And no man taketh this honor, but is called by God, as Aaron was.
So Christ also did not glorify Himself to be the high priest, but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee:
as well as in another [place] says: You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
He, in the days of his flesh, with loud cries and tears, offering up prayers and supplications to Him who is able to save him from death; and was heard in [his] reverence;
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by suffering,
And being made perfect, he became for all who obey him, author of eternal salvation,

Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
eleven About this and we must talk a lot; but it is difficult to interpret, because you have become dull of hearing.
For, [judging] by this time you ought to be teachers; but again you need to be taught the first principles of the oracles of God, and you need milk, not solid food.
Anyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe;
But solid food is for the mature, whose senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
