`Ask us of the Lord, for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon is fighting against us; Perhaps the Lord will do to us something like all His miracles, so that He will depart from us. " |

And Jeremiah said unto them: Thus shall ye say unto Zedekiah: |

Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight with the king of Babylon, and with the Chaldeans that besiege you outside the wall: and I will gather them in the midst of this city: |

|
And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and a strong arm, in anger and in fury and in great indignation; |

|
And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; They shall die of a great plague. |

|
And after that, saith the Lord, Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants and the people, and they that remain in the city from the pestilence, sword and famine shall deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hands of those who seek their souls; And he shall smite them with the edge of the sword, and spare them not, neither shall he have compassion or mercy.

And to this people say: Thus says the Lord: Behold, I offer you the way of life and the way of death: |

|
Whoever remains in this city will die from the sword and famine and pestilence; But whoever comes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he will live, and his soul will be to him instead of prey; |

|
For I have turned my face against this city, says the Lord, for evil, and not for good; He will be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire. |

And to the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear the word of the Lord: |

The house of David! Thus says the Lord: from early morning, execute judgment, and save the offender from the hand of the offender, lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn not because of your wicked works, until no one extinguishes. |

|
Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, the rock of the plain, saith the Lord, against you, which say, Who shall come up against us, and who shall enter into our dwellings? |

|
But I will visit you according to the fruits of your doings, says the Lord, and I will kindle a fire in your forest, and it will devour everything around it. |
