A certain Lazarus was sick from Bethany, from the village, where Mary and Martha, her sister, lived. |
2
Mary, whose brother Lazarus was sick, was [the one] who anointed the Lord with peace and wiped his feet with his hair. |
3
The sisters sent to say to Him: Lord! This is the one whom You love, is sick. |
4
When Jesus heard this, he said: This illness is not for death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it. |
5
Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. |
6th
When he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was. |
7th
After this, he said to the disciples: Let us go again to Judah. |
8
The disciples said to Him: Rabbi! How long ago did the Jews seek to stone You with stones, and You again go there? |
9
Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day?" He who walks in the day does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world; |
10
But whoever walks at night stumbles because there is no light with him. |
eleven
Having said this, he tells them later: Lazarus, our friend, has fallen asleep; But I'm going to wake him up. |
12
His disciples said: Lord! If he falls asleep, he will recover. |
13
Jesus spoke of his death, and they thought that He spoke of an ordinary dream. |
14
Then Jesus said to them plainly: Lazarus is dead; |
15
And I rejoice for you, because I was not there, that you may believe; But let's go to him. |
16
Then Thomas, otherwise called Gemini, said to the disciples: "Let us go and we will die with him."
17th
When Jesus came, he found that he had been in the grave for four days already. |
18
Bethany was near Jerusalem, the stages at fifteen; |
19
And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary to comfort them [in] [sorrow] for their brother. |
20
Martha, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet him; Mary was at home. |
21
Then Martha said to Jesus: Lord! If You were here, my brother would not have died. |
22
But even now I know that what You ask of God, God will give you. |
23
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise up. |
24
Martha said to Him: I know that He will rise on the resurrection, on the last day. |
25
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; He that believeth in me, though he were dead, will live. |
26th
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Do you believe this? |
27th
She says to Him: so, Lord! I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world. |
28
Having said this, she went and secretly invited Mary, her sister, saying: "The Teacher is here and is calling you." |
29
She, as soon heard, hurriedly got up and went to Him. |
thirty
Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was in the place where Martha met him. |
31
The Jews who were with her in the house and comforted her, seeing that Maria hurriedly got up and left, followed her, believing that she had gone to the coffin - to cry there. |
32
Mary, when she came to where Jesus was, and saw Him, fell at His feet and said to Him: Lord! If You were here, my brother would not have died.
33
Jesus, when he saw her weeping, and the Jews who were crying with her, was afflicted with spirit and rebelled |
34
And said: where did you put it? They say to Him, Lord! Go and see. |
35
Jesus shed a few tears. |
36
Then the Jews said: See how He loved him. |
37
And some of them said: could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, do so that this one would not die? |
38
But Jesus, again grieving inwardly, comes to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay on it. |
39
Jesus says: Take away the stone. The sister of the deceased, Martha, says to Him: Lord! Already stinks; For four days, as he is in the tomb. |
40
Jesus saith unto her, Did I not say unto thee, that if thou shalt believe, seest the glory of God? |
41
So they took away the stone [from the cave], where the deceased lay. Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: Father! I thank thee that thou hast heard me. |
42
I knew that You always hear Me; But he said this to the people standing here, that they might believe that you sent me. |
43
Having said this, He cried with a loud voice: Lazarus! Go away. |
44
And the deceased came out, entwined on the hands and feet with burial cloths, and his face was tied with a handkerchief. Jesus saith unto them, Unbind him, let him go.
45
Then many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what Jesus had done believed in Him. |
46
And some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus did. |
47
Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered counsel and said: what shall we do? This Man does many miracles. |
48
If we leave him this way, then everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take our place and our people. |
49
One of them, a certain Caiaphas, being the high priest for that year, said to them: you do not know anything, |
50
And you will not think that it is better for us that one man should die for the people, rather than that all the people perish. |
51
But he did not say this from himself, but being the high priest for that year, he predicted that Jesus would die for the people, |
52
And not only for the people, but for the scattered children of God to be gathered together. |
53
From this day they put Him to death. |
54
Therefore, Jesus no longer walked clearly between the Jews, but went from there to the country near the desert, into the city called Ephraim, and there he remained with his disciples. |
55
The Passover of the Jews was approaching, and many of the whole country came to Jerusalem before the Passover to be cleansed. |
56
Then they were looking for Jesus and, standing in the temple, they said to each other: what do you think? Will He come to the feast? |
57
The chief priests and Pharisees gave the command that if anyone found out where He would be, He would declare to take Him. |
