And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying: |
2
Lead the children of Israel, that they from the inheritance of their possession should give to the Levites of the city for their habitation, and give the Levites, on all sides, cities from all sides: |
3
Cities will be their residence, and the fields will be for their livestock and for their possessions and for all their everyday needs; |
4
The fields of the cities that ye shall give to the Levites, from the wall of the city [shall extend] by [two] thousand cubits, in all directions; |
5
And measure out to the east side two thousand cubits to the east side, and two thousand cubits to the south, and two thousand cubits to the west, two thousand cubits to the north, and a city to the north: such shall be their fields in the cities. |
6th
Of the cities that you will give to the Levites, there will be six cities for refuge, in which you will allow the murderer to escape; And over them give forty-two cities: |
7th
All the cities that you are to give to the Levites, [there will be] forty-eight cities, with the fields with them. |
8
And when ye give cities out of the possession of the children of Israel, then from greater give more, of lesser less; Every knee, according to the inheritance that it receives, must give from their cities to the Levites.
9
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying: |
10
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye shall pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, |
eleven
Choose cities for yourself, which would be your cities for asylum, where the killer could have escaped, who killed a person unintentionally; |
12
And these cities will be your refuge from the avenger, lest the murderer be slain before he stands before the congregation for judgment. |
13
The cities that you must give, cities for asylum, you must have six: |
14
Three cities give on this side Jordan and three cities give in the land of Canaan; They must be the cities of refuge; |
15
For the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the settler among you, these six cities shall be a refuge, to flee to every one that killed a man unintentionally. |
16
If anyone hits someone with an iron gun so that he dies, he is a murderer: the murderer must be put to death; |
17th
And if anyone strikes someone from the hand with a stone from which you can die, so that he dies, he is a murderer: the murderer must be put to death; |
18
Or if by a wooden implement, from which you can die, strike from the hand so that he dies, then he is a murderer: the murderer must be put to death; |
19
The avenger of blood himself can kill the murderer: only he will meet him, he himself can kill him; |
20
If someone pushes someone by hatred, or intentionally throws at him [something] so that he dies, |
21
Or by enmity will strike him with his hand so that he dies, then the striker must be put to death: he is a murderer; The avenger of blood can kill the murderer, only to meet him. |
22
If he pushes him unintentionally, without enmity, or throws at him something without intent, |
23
Or some stone from which you can die without seeing it drop it so that he dies, but he was not his enemy and did not want him evil, |
24
Then the society must judge between the murderer and the avenger of blood according to these regulations; |
25
And society must save the murderer from the hand of the avenger for blood, and must return his society to the city of his refuge, where he fled, so that he may live there until the death of the great priest who is anointed with the sacred oil; |
26th
If the murderer goes beyond the city of refuge, to which he escaped, |
27th
And the avenger of blood will find him outside the city of his refuge, and the murderer of this avenger will kill the blood, then there will be no bloodshed on him, |
28
For he was to dwell in the city of his refuge until the death of the great priest, and after the death of the great priest the murderer was to return to the land of his possession. |
29
Let this be your statute by law in your generations, in all your dwellings. |
thirty
If anyone kills a man, then the murderer must kill according to witnesses; But one witness is not enough [to condemn] to death. |
31
And do not take ransom for the soul of the murderer, who is guilty of death, but must be put to death; |
32
And take no ransom for a refugee who fled to the city, so that he [may] live in the land before the death of the [great] priest. |
33
Do not defile the land on which you will live; For the blood defile the earth, and the earth is not cleansed from the blood spilled on it, as by the blood of the one who shed it. |
34
You must not defile the land on which you live, among which I live; For I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel. |
