Ukraine (Ukrainian. Ukraine [ukrɑˈjinɑ]) - a state in Eastern Europe. The population according to the 2001 census was 48,240,902 permanent residents and 48,457,102 actual population, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine on April 1, 2017 - 42,353,130 permanent residents and 42,522,767 actual population, territory within the constitutional framework countries - 603,549, with a part of it being de facto not controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. It occupies the 32nd place in the world in terms of population, 44 (47) -e on the territory. Ukraine has the largest territory of the states entirely located in Europe.

The capital of Ukraine is Kiev . The state language is Ukrainian; also at different levels the status of regional languages, languages of national minorities and some others is officially fixed.
Ukraine is a unitary state and a parliamentary-presidential republic. Since June 7, 2014, Petro Poroshenko holds the presidency. Prime Minister of Ukraine - Vladimir Groysman (from April 14, 2016). The country is divided into 27 administrative-territorial units, 24 of which are regions, 1 - an autonomous republic and 2 are cities of state subordination (Kiev, Sevastopol).
It borders with Belarus in the north, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary in the west, Romania and Moldova in the southwest, and Russia in the east and northeast. In the south and southeast it is washed by the Black and Azov seas, it has sea borders with Romania in the Black Sea and with Russia in the Sea of Azov.
Most believers are Orthodox Christians.
The volume of GDP for 2016, calculated at purchasing power parity amounted to 353 billion US dollars (8272 US dollars per capita). The nominal GDP in the same year amounted to 176.31 billion US dollars (3,867 US dollars per capita). The monetary unit is the hryvnia (UAH), the average exchange rate for 2015 is 22 hryvnia for 1 US dollar, current at the end of 2017 is 25 hryvnia for 1 US dollar.
The independence of the country from the USSR, whose union republic Ukraine has been since December 1922, was proclaimed on August 24, 1991. The successor of state-national traditions and the successor of the UNR, the successor state of the Ukrainian SSR, co-successor of the USSR under international treaties, the co-founder of the UN, CIS, GUAM, BSEC and other international organizations, is in association with the European Union.
