QR-Code and DataMatrix

2D codes are able to encode hundreds of bytes. The most common symbologies are QR-Code, DataMatrix (ECC200) and PDF417. Linear barcodes (1D codes) are usually used in the logistics and industry for serial numbers, product IDs, etc. EAN and UPC bar codes are used in retail point of sale for product identification. The composite barcodes hold additional data. QR-Code and DataMatrix can be used to encode URLs and phone numbers. Read the generated codes with your smartphone! GS1-DataBar is intended for trade item identification and retail point of sale (POS) applications.
ISBN, ISSN and ISMN barcodes are used to identify books, periodicals and media. Postal bar codes are used by postal service providers in several countries to optimize mail delivery. 2D codes are used to encode contact data for business cards. MeCard and vCard barcode formats are supported. These 2D codes are encode event data. When scanned with a smartphone like an iPhone or Android, an appointment is created. This code is used to configure Wi-Fi settings for Android devices. The current version of ZXing is able to scan it.
