WEB-SERVER WITH SOURCE OF FOOD FROM 12-THERE POTATOES IS CREATED

A group of computer enthusiasts from the UK created a device resembling the grim biotechnology of the movie "The Matrix" : the group built a web server, the source of power for which is potatoes.

As you know, the basis of the potato is an electrolyte - similar to the acid that is used in batteries. After plugging copper and zinc electrodes into the potatoes, you can get a low-power battery in this way. There are cases of creation of primitive electronic devices (for example, watches) on the basis of similar biobataries. However, hardly anyone tried to create anything more complicated with the use of this technology.

As reported by BBC , the publishers of the site Temple ov thee Lemur decided to build a web server, which feeds on potatoes, on the dispute. The basis was taken by an old computer with a low-power Intel 386 processor. Instead of a hard drive, which requires too much power, British enthusiasts put a memory chip ( 2 megabytes ), in which server programs and two web pages are "sewn up."

However, even such a simple server requires good power. It is provided by 12 potatoes, which have to be changed every few days. One potato generates a current of about half a volt.

Internet users can view the pages hosted by the potato server - although, due to the low power of the server, it can accept a limited number of visitors per time unit.
