HITACHI generate electricity from the air

Hitachi has developed a new technology of producing electricity using naturally occurring in the air vibrations with an amplitude of several micrometers.

Although until technology provides a rather low voltage, its attractiveness lies in the fact that the generator can be operated in any place and under any conditions, in contrast to the same solar panels. The technology is based on the theory that electricity can be generated, the vibration changes distance between an electrode fixed to a flat spring, and the fixed electrode. To confirm their theory, the developers have created a size 2,5h7 see the device produces a current capacity of 0.12 microwatts in the event of fluctuations in a few micrometers, which can be found even in nearly still air of the building. Such power is sufficient for the temperature sensor or the light once an hour, or send data, the measured sensor to another location. According to the developers, the technology can be used, for example, in sensors for determining the fatigue of a building or parts wear mechanisms. The Hitachi plans to expand the range of its opening applications, reducing the dimensions of the device to 1x1 cm and increasing the power generated by the current.
