ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FAMILIES OF FISH

Bahromchatousye catfish (Mochokidae)

Bahromchatousye catfish constitute a large family, but almost all of its forms combined native sinodontov (Synodontis). Typical nocturnal fish are found in almost all water bodies, so - and in those where very little oxygen (eg, marshy areas). These catfish three pairs of whiskers, and the two of them usually have a thick fringe. These bottom-dwelling fish at night usually go in search of food groups. Swim, they are very elegant; catch them is very difficult. Therefore some kinds come in small amounts to us and expensive. Such species include Synodontis angelicus and S. flavitaenatus. First sinodont known as stellate angel, set a record for the height of the price. Young animals adorn the graceful dots, but we must not forget that with age, these fish grow to 25 cm and more beautiful is not becoming. The second type - tape sinodont - somewhat smaller (20 cm).

Sinodont Alberta (S. Alberti) is popular not only because of its brown-green marble pattern, but because of the long mustache. Shirokopolosy catfish Brishara (S brichardi.) At a young age stands tall and deep cut its dorsal fin; coloring it too beautiful. No less beautiful pattern at the flag (S. Decorus) and luxury (S. Ornatipinnis) sinodontov. . Length of the first little more than 30 cm, the length of the second slightly less than 20 cm do not grow to such an extent (in the aquarium - a little more than 10-12 cm) catfish-natives of the Congo, floating up bryuhm: S. nigriventris, S. soptractus and the S. atterinus. In lakes Tanganyika and Malawi are caught and import of four species of this family. Malawi sinodont (. S njassae) beauty is no different, but the inhabitants of Tanganyika - S. multipunctatus, S. eurystomus especially S. petricola - good enough. The last of these, in spite of a similar coloring, stands the white ray of the dorsal fin.

Finally, mention should be made of marble catfish (S. Schoutedenti), his body covered with "maze patterns", S. schoutedenti grows up to 14-18 cm. Contents bahromchatousyh soms in home aquariums is not too difficult. In those areas where they are common, they had to get used to a variety of living conditions. Settling them in a home aquarium, you need to first ensure that they receive a sufficient amount of food. They take different kinds of food, both meat and vegetable. They behave peacefully. The aquarium should not be too small.
