Almost never occurs in the form of distinct crystals; More often represented by radiant and fibrous aggregates, as well as lamellar dense masses. The color is dirty white, gray, brownish-yellow or brown.
Diagnostic signs.
It does not dissolve in acids, it hardly melts in the flame of a candle.
Origin.
In nature it is not widely distributed, it occurs in crystalline schists (gneisses, amphibolites, chlorite schists, peridotite serpentinites, etc.) and in some contact-metamorphic rocks.
Place of Birth.
This mineral is known in Kongsberg (Norway) and some places in Finland, Greenland and the USA. In Italy, anthophyllite is abundant in the metamorphosed inclusions of granites of San Fedelino (Novate-Mezzola, Sondrio province). It is also noted in mica schists in Val-Pas- seria and, in interlayering with serpentine, in Monte Caran (Elba Island).
