Singonia monoclinic

Cleavage is perfect
Cracked shell
Yellow color
Color in powder white
Glitter glass
Glitter is glass. Some significant deposits are known only in Brazil (Minas Gerais and Espiritu Santo), as well as in the USA (New Hampshire). It can be confused with amblygonite, beryl, chrysoberyl, topaz.
Crystallizes in the form of crystals of prismatic or isometric form, rich in facets. Their size can reach 10 cm. The mineral is fragile, often transparent (jewelry variety); Its color is pale yellow. The hardness is average, the cleavage is perfect. A type of conchoidal fracture, glitter glass.
Diagnostic signs.
Brasilianite may contain inclusions of elongated crystals of green tourmaline, a plate of mica-muscovite, often has cracks with minute liquid bubbles, often two-phase (containing a liquid and a gas phase).
Origin.
It is present in the voids of pegmatites, associating it with lazulite and blue apatite.
Place of Birth.
The first crystals of brazilianite were found in the pessimites of Conseillare Pen; A little later this mineral was discovered near Corrego-Friou, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Then it was found in pegmatites in Palermo-Main (Grafton district) and in Smith-Main (Newport) in the state of New Hampshire (USA).
Application in jewelry.
Brasilianite, before it was identified as an independent mineral, was often confused with yellow chrysoberyl and with the topaz of the same color. It is cut with an oval, cutting corners by rectangular facets. Such gems are used very little.
