These two minerals are the extreme members of the isomorphous series (pictured - dekluazita crystals). They occur in the form of a pyramidal or prismatic crystals, often in sub-parallel intergrowths; sometimes in the form of brushes, nodules, dense mass with a fibrous structure and the surface of a kidney.
Chemical composition. lead oxide (PbO), 56.48% zinc oxide (ZnO) 16,60%, vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) 22,74%, water (H2O) 2.34%; impurity: copper, iron and arsenic. Transparency. Matte translucent (almost opaque). Class symmetry. Rombo-tetrahedral - 222. The crystalline form precipitates. Grozdevidnaya, radiating.
Dekluazit - vanadate lead and zinc, usually mixed with copper. Gloss Diamond or fat. Colors: brown, red-brown, black. Dash yellow to light brown. Fracture conchoidal. Fragile. Cleavage is absent.
Formed in the area of polymetallic deposits oxidation. Crystals (orthorhombic) columnar, pyramidal, lamellar, also grozdevidnye units. Source passing of vanadium. Found in fields of Carinthia (Austria), in Tsumeb (Namibia), Zimbabwe, region. Shaba (Zaire), Algeria, pcs. Arizona (USA).
The color ranges from pinkish-brown to brownish-black. Mottramit characterized in that it can also be a grass-green and olive-green. Gloss fat. Brown, brownish-green, brownish-black.
Diagnostic features.
Soluble in acids; easily soluble in water.
Origin.
Formed in the oxidation zone of some deposits of lead, zinc and copper; often associated with vanadinitom, pyromorphite, mimetitom, cerussite.
Deposits and application.
Both minerals are present in many fields. Mottramit was installed for the first time in Mottram St Andrew in Cheshire (England). When these minerals are present in sufficient numbers, they are used as vanadium ore. Related minerals. Quartz, limonite, pyromorphite, vanadinite. Important vanadium ore.
