Often you can see hemimorphite alternating blue and white stripes or dark switching matrix. The deposits are known in Algeria, Italy, Greece, Mexico, Namibia. Easily confused with smithsonite, sometimes turquoise.
The crystals are usually colorless, glassy and transparent, small, but not too rare. Hemimorphite except crystals found in a concretion of the masses, with the mastoid, reniform or stalactite shape.
Moreover, it forms a cover, inside which is almost always visible radiating structure. Painting of the masses can be white, yellow, brown, blue and green. Other features hemimorphite (also known as calamine) - average hardness, not too much weight, perfect cleavage on the prism.
Diagnostic features.
The crystals are charged with electricity by heating (pyro) and compressive (piezoelectricity). Mineral almost does not melt, but exposed to the acid.
Origin.
This typical mineral oxidation zone of lead and zinc sulphides. The reaction of the zinc and lead salts with water-rich silica hemimorphite formed large masses. He is closely associated with almost smithsonite, gidrotsinkitom, cerussite, anglesite and unaltered sulphides of lead and zinc.
Place of Birth.
In Italy hemimorphite as nodules and small crystals found in many places. It is found in the mines of lead and zinc in the Bergamasco; Monte Chivilino zone from Chiodo-Rikoaro in Vicentino; in the lead-zinc deposit in Raybl Kavedel-Prödl about Tarvisio (region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia) and in many places in Sardinia (commonly known concretion mass of bright azure, which at one time found at the mine Sa Duchessa). Beautiful Friends colorless crystals enclosed in limonite mass came from the Mexican mines mapimi and Santa Eulalia.
Application.
Hemimorphite as such or in mixture with other oxides of zinc is zinc ore excellent. The name given for gemimorfnuyu form crystals from the Greek "hemi" - half and "morph" - form.
