Crystallizes in the form of elongated-prismatic crystals with imperfect ends, as well as fibrous-columnar aggregates and fibers. The color of glaucophane is bluish-gray, lavender-blue or grayish-azure, glossy glass, and also pearly.
Diagnostic signs.
Glaucophane easily melts in the flame of a candle and hardly dissolves in acids.
Origin.
It occurs in crystalline schists in association with minerals such as jadeite, lavsonite and pumpelleyite.
Place of Birth.
Distributed in Zermatt (Switzerland), Coast Ranger (California) and in Val d'Aosta, near Saint-Marcel.
