Broken thorn
Color pink, lilac
Color in powder white
Glitter pearl
Lepidolite (lithium mica) is an aluminosilicate. Glitter is pearly. Opaque. Colors: pinkish, shades of lilac to colorless. The line is white. Cleavage is very perfect. Leaflets are flexible. It is formed in pegmatites and altered granites. It is represented mainly by aggregates of small scales. Lithium ore. Deposits are known in southern Africa, the United States.
Occasionally forms individual tabular pseudohexagonal crystals, more often - small-sized aggregates of flakes. It can be colorless, sometimes light gray, pinkish and purple in mass. It has perfect cleavage along the base and glass shine.
Diagnostic signs.
Lepidolite is amenable to the action of acids, but with a certain treatment scheme. On the flame of the candle it is easy to melt, coloring the flame in a bright pink color, which is due to the presence of lithium.
Origin.
Lepidolite is a mineral of pegmatite-pneumatic-lithic origin, characteristic of granite pegmatites, in which it is distributed along with quartz, tourmaline, topaz, cassiterite, beryl and lithium minerals.
Deposits and applications.
Mineral was met in Kulgardi in Western Australia, in Moravia (Czech Republic), in the Urals, in Pala in California, in Peinning in Saxony (Germany), in alkali pegmatites of Antsirabe in Madagascar and in granites on the island of Elba (Italy). Lepidolite is an ore on lithium, a very light metal used in metallurgy. Lithium salts are used in the pharmaceutical industry, glass production, lubricants.
