Pb Cu SO 4 (OH) 2
Singonia monoclinic
Hardness 2,5
Specific weight 5,3
Cleavage is perfect
Cracked shell
Color light blue
Color in powder blue
Glitter glass
It is represented by elongated crystals, both isolated and in druses; Sometimes - more or less radiant aggregates of needle crystals. Color is always characteristic dark blue. The crystals are oblong, often finely-tabbed, up to 10 cm long, often in groups or grown up separately, as well as crusts and aggregates of irregularly grown crystals. Twins are common. Cleavage is perfect; Density of 5,3-5,5; The color is azure-blue.
Diagnostic signs.
Reacts with nitric acid. It melts with a characteristic crackle and blackening. Linarit is very similar to azurite. To distinguish it from azurite is possible only with the help of chemical analysis.
Origin.
This is a typical mineral of the oxidation zone of copper-lead deposits. It is associated there with anglesite and glacillite. It is widely distributed as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zone of lead and copper deposits.
Place of Birth.
Linearite is found in numerous deposits, including in Tsumeb (Namibia); Mammoth Mine, Tiger (Arizona, USA); Tintik (Utah); Butte (Montana); Cerro-Gordo-Mine (California); Ledhills (Scotland), Broken Hill (Australia); Arenas, Rosas, San Giovanni in Iglesiente, Sardinia (Italy).
Fine large crystals from the mines of Arizona (USA), the Linares district (Spain, the name of the city was taken as the basis for the name of the mineral in 1839), South Africa (Namibia), England and Scotland, Fr. Sardinia (Italy), Russia.
