Ergot and its alkaloids

Ergot and its alkaloids have a complex effect on the body (see Aa-Adrenoblockers, ergot, dihydroergotamine, dihydroergotoxin).
An important feature of the drugs of this group is their stimulating effect on the musculature of the uterus. They are widely used for atony of the uterus and associated uterine bleeding. Hemostatic effect is due mainly to the compression of the walls of the vessels with a reduction in the musculature of the uterus. In the postpartum period, ergot preparations accelerate the reverse development of the uterus. Spore is also prescribed for menorrhagia (menstrual bleeding) and uterine bleeding, not associated with violations of the menstrual cycle.
U Contraindications: pregnancy and childbirth (tonic contraction of the uterus musculature can cause fetal asphyxia).
To speed up the labor, do not use an ergot. It is dangerous to use ergot immediately after the birth of the child, if the placenta is still in the uterine cavity, as the spasm of the musculature can interfere with the separation of the afterbirth.
Ugric drugs should be taken only as directed by a doctor. With too long application, and sometimes with increased sensitivity, ergotism phenomena associated with vasoconstriction and disruption of nutrition of tissues (especially the extremities) and mental disorders are possible.
The main modern uterine drugs of this group are ergometrine, methylergometrine, ergotamine and ergotal.
