INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY (IAEA)

- An international organization that was created under the auspices of the UN to promote international cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. IAEA was established in 1954, it is headquartered in Vienna.

IAEA provides annually to the General Assembly, as appropriate to the Security Council, reports on its activities, although not a UN specialized agency, but it is associated with a special agreement.

The aim of the IAEA under the Charter is a better use of atomic energy to peace, health and well-being around the world.

IAEA activities include:

1) the convening of conferences, symposiums;

2) the organization of seminars and scientific meetings to exchange experiences and information on the problems of nuclear science and technology;
