DEPOSITORY OF INTERNATIONAL TREATIES

- custodian of the authentic text (certified copies, official translations) of the multilateral international treaty and all documents related to it (declarations, reservations, ratifications, denunciations, etc.). DMD can be:

1) one or more states;

2) an international organization;

3) the chief executive officer of an international organization.

Functions DM D .:

1) keeping the original text of the contract and certifying the powers of the signatories;

2) sending to States Parties, as well as states entitled to become parties to the treaty, certified copies from its original text;

3) ensuring the signing of the treaty by the states wishing to become its participants;

4) receipt and storage of documents, notifications and communications pertaining to the contract;

5) informing the participants, as well as the states entitled to become parties to the treaty, of documents, notifications and communications related to the contract;

6) informing the parties to the treaty of its entry into force, as well as of signatures, the deposit of instruments of ratification or accession documents;

7) ensuring the registration of the treaty in the UN Secretariat.

Correspondence on issues related to the implementation of the functions of the depositary is conducted through diplomatic channels.

The DMD is determined by the states participating in the negotiations and is usually assigned to them:

1) the state in whose territory the international conference that adopted the treaty took place;

2) the competent authority of the international organization, if the contract was adopted within the framework of this organization.
