TEST 40. ASSESSMENT OF ANNUAL SOCIAL ADAPTATION

The test is based on the use of the idea of communication of adaptation with stress phenomena. It turns out that the unsuccessful adaptation to the new situation due to the excess of novelty, emotionality, negativism of this situation over the adaptive capabilities of a person causes stress - the reaction of the organism, manifested in overstated physical and psychological overstrain of forces.

Doctors Holmes and Rage (USA) studied the dependence of diseases (including infectious diseases and injuries) on various stress-related life events in more than five thousand patients. They came to the conclusion that mental and physical diseases are usually preceded by certain serious changes in human life. Based on their research, they compiled a scale in which each important life event corresponds to a certain number of points, depending on the degree of its stress-genency. As a result, it was found that 150 points mean

The Social Adaptation Assessment Scale (Meskon M.H., Albert M., Hedouri F. Decree - S. 548-549), as well as the Scale of Social Adaptation Scores (Kirsheva NV, Ryabova N.V. Psychology of personality: tests, questionnaires, techniques. - Moscow: Helikon, 1995).

50% of the probability of a disease, at 300 points it increases to 90%.

Try to remember all the events that happened to you during the last year, and calculate the total number of points you scored (see table).

Carefully read the entire list in order to have a general idea of what situations, events and life circumstances that cause stress are presented in it. Then, re-read each item, paying attention to the number of points that each situation is evaluated. Next, try to deduce from those events and situations that have occurred in your life in the last two years, the arithmetic mean (calculate the average number of points for one year). If any situation occurred to you more often than once, then the result should be multiplied by a given number of times.

The total amount determines simultaneously and the degree of your resistance to stress. A large number of points is an alarm signal, warning you of danger. Therefore, you need to urgently do something to eliminate stress. The calculated amount has one more meaning - it expresses (in numbers) your degree of stress load. For clarity, we give a comparative table of stress characteristics.

Total points

Degree of resistance to stress

150-199

High

200-299

Threshold

300 and more

Low (vulnerability)

If, for example, you scored more than 300 points, this means a real danger, that is, you are in danger of psychosomatic illness, since you are close to the phase of nervous exhaustion. Counting the amount of points will give you the opportunity to recreate the picture of your stress. And then you will understand that not separate, seemingly insignificant, events in your life caused the emergence of a stressful situation, and their complex impact.

In conclusion, we note that the adaptive aspects do not exhaust the characteristics of a person's stress stability, therefore a special Practicum-6 will be devoted to their self-esteem and development.

So, you were able to assess the various aspects that determine the level of your adaptive potential. Do not worry if these ratings are not too high. Of course, basically adaptive abilities are an innate property, however they can be developed as a result of training.

Tips for developing adaptive capacity

- Develop each new situation thoughtfully, relying on the knowledge of social adaptation mechanisms:

Information - the collection of necessary information to adequately assess the new situation;

Communicative - the establishment of positive personal connections with people that affect the situation, primarily with leaders.

- Try to train your adaptive abilities, expanding your participation in new situations. Do not be afraid to create the conditions for a variety of meetings with new people in new circumstances.

- Travel more, choose new routes for walking.

- Use the possibility of intellectual training: solving intellectual problems, crossword puzzles, puzzles; Analytical analysis of adaptive situations encountered in movies, literature, and the press.

- Analyze how your new colleagues work in the new labor situation, mark their successes and misses. How would you adapt in their place?
