DECREE "on primogeniture"

- The decree of Peter I on the reform of the upper classes.

The decree regulated the legal status of the nobility. Peter I of W. E .:

1) legitimized the merger estates and manor houses, giving the term "immovable property";

2) turned the estate into a hereditary tenure - it stimulated the nobility to go for salaries in the public service, and the government received frames as the younger sons of the deceased nobleman, losing an inheritance, had to make a living, and only one of the three brothers would go to serve civil parts;

3) established institution of primogeniture, under which all landlords and patrimonial land inherited departed only the eldest son, and in his absence - one of the daughters, and the aim is to limit the fragmentation of landed property of the nobility.
