Description of the medicine: Pentagastrin (Pentagastrinum)
Synonyms: Acignost, Gastrodiagnost, Pentagastrin, Peptavlon.
Odorless amorphous powder, white or white with a slightly yellowish tint. Practically insoluble in water, very slightly soluble in alcohol.
It is a synthetic analogue of the hormone of the digestive tract - gastrin. It has the ability to strongly stimulate the secretion of the stomach. It is used as a stimulant of gastric secretion for the diagnosis of stomach diseases (for the definition of secretory ability and acid-forming function of the stomach, see also Histamine).
It is used as a 0.025% solution. 6 mcg (0.006 mg) per 1 kg of the patient’s body weight is injected under the skin.
After administration of the drug, secretion increases after 5-10 minutes, reaches a maximum after 15-30 minutes and lasts for 1 hour or more.
The study of gastric juice is usually carried out every 15 minutes for 1 hour or more.
With the introduction of the drug, salivation, nausea, a short-term moderate decrease in blood pressure, discomfort in the abdominal cavity are possible.
The use of pentagastrin is contraindicated in circulatory failure stage II - III, cardiac arrhythmias, severe hypotension.
Release form: in the form of a solution in ampoules containing 0.5 mg (2 ml = 500 μg of the drug).
