Description of the medicine: Ambroxol (Ambroxolum)
AMBROXOL (Ambroxolum) *. trans-4 - [(2-amino-3, 5-dibromobenzyl) amino] cyclohexanol hydrochloride.
Synonyms: Lazolvan, Lasolvan, Ambrolitic, Bronchopront, Fluixol,
Lindoxyl, Mucofar, Mucosan, Mucosolvon, Mucovent, Secretil, Viscomcil, etc.
Flavourless white crystalline powder, slightly bitter taste.
The chemical structure is close to bromhexine. It differs from the latter in the absence of a methyl group at the nitrogen atom of the side chain and the presence of hydroxyl in the para position of the hexyl core.
According to the pharmacological properties and mechanism of action, ambroxil does not substantially differ from bromhexine. Both are mucolytic agents that stimulate the formation of surfactant, normalize the changed bronchopulmonary secretion, improve the rheological parameters of sputum, reduce its viscosity and adhesive properties, and facilitate its excretion from the bronchi.
Ambroxol (lasolvan) attracts great attention due to the general interest in drugs that stimulate the formation of surfactant.
Indications for use are basically the same as for bromhexine.
Ambroxol (lasolvan) does not significantly differ from bromhexine in terms of its effect on surfactant production and mucociliary transport. There are indications that ambroxol can also be used to stimulate the formation of surfactant in premature infants and newborns with respiratory failure syndrome.
For adults, ambroxol (lasolvan) is prescribed orally by 1 tablet (30 mg) 3 times a day; with long-term treatment - 1 tablet 2 times a day. Take after eating with a little water.
Children are recommended to give in the form of syrup (15 mg of Ambroxol in 5 ml) in the following doses: up to 2 years - 2.5 ml 2 times a day, from 2 to 5 years - 2.5 ml 3 times a day, over 5 years - 5 ml 2 - 3 times a day. In the first 2 to 3 days of treatment, the dose can be doubled. Adults are prescribed syrup in the first 2 to 3 days, 10 ml 3 times a day, then 5 ml 3 times a day.
Ambroxol (lasolvan) can also be used as a solution for inhalation (15 mg in 2 ml): in adults and children over 5 years old - 1 to 2 inhalations per day, 2 to 3 ml; in children under 5 years - 1 - 2 inhalations per day, 2 ml.
The drug can be administered intramuscularly or intravenously. Adults are given 2 to 3 ampoules (15 mg per ampoule) 2-3 times a day; for children under 2 years of age, 1/2 ampoule 2 times a day; from 2 to 5 years - 1/2 ampoule 3 times a day, older than 5 years - 1 ampoule 2 - 3 times a day. In case of respiratory insufficiency syndrome, 10 mg / kg per day is administered (in 3-4 doses).
The drug is usually well tolerated. In some cases, when taken orally, nausea and vomiting are possible.
Ambroxol should not be prescribed in the first 3 months of pregnancy.
