Description of the medicine: Prednisolonum (Prednisolonum)
Pregnadiene-1, 4-triol-11b, 17a, 21-dione-3, 20, or dehydrohydrocortisone.
Synonyms: Antisolon, Codelcortone, Cordex, Dacortin, Decortin H, Dehydrocortisol, Delta-Cortef, Deltacortril, Deltastab, Deltidrosol, Deltisilone, Hostacorlin H, Hydeltra, Hydrocortalone, Mecortolon, Metacortalone, Metacortalone, Metacortalone, Metacortalone, Metacortalone, Metacortalone, Metacortalone, Metacortalone, Metacortalone Prednisolone, Prenolone, Sterane, Sterolone, Ultracorten H, etc.
Crystalline powder, white or white with a slight yellowish tint. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol.
Prednisolone is a dehydrogenated analogue of hydrocortisone.
The nature of the action and activity is close to prednisone. It is used for rheumatism, non-specific infectious polyarthritis, bronchial asthma, acute lymphatic and myeloid leukemia, infectious mononucleosis, neurodermatitis, eczema and other indications for the use of glucocorticosteroids.
There is evidence of the effectiveness of prednisone in cirrhosis, chronic glomerulonephritis. Methods have been developed for the use of prednisone (and other glucocorticosteroids) in myasthenia gravis.
Prescribe prednisone inside in the form of tablets. Usually taken starting (in acute cases) with 20 to 40 mg per day. Subsequently, the dose is reduced to 5 to 10 mg per day. These doses are supportive. Stop treatment (as with other glucocorticoids) should be, gradually reducing the dose. And at the end of treatment, corticotropin should be administered 1 to 2 times.
Higher doses for adults inside: single 0.015 g daily 0.1 g
Contraindications to the use of prednisone are the same as for other glucocorticosteroids.
Release form: tablets with the content of 0,001 and 0,005 g (1 and 5 mg) of prednisolone.
Storage: List B. In the dark place.
In urgent cases requiring an immediate increase in the level of corticosteroids in the blood (acute adrenal insufficiency, shock, asthma, attacks of bronchial asthma, etc.), a soluble preparation of prednisolone for injection is used - prednisolongemisuccinate (see).
For topical use in skin diseases of non-microbial etiology (eczema, pruritus, dermatitis, etc.), 0.5% prednisone ointment (Unguentum Prednisoloni 0.5%) is used, which is applied a thin layer on the skin 1-3 times a day.
Release form: in aluminum tubes of 10 and 20 g.
Storage: List B. In a cool place.
Prednisolone is part of the ointment << Dermozolone >> (see) and the drug << Presocil> (see Hingamine).
In eye practice (keratitis, conjunctivitis, iritis, blepharitis, etc.), eye drops are used containing 0.3% solution of 21- (deoxy-N-methyl-N'-piperazinyl) -prednisolone hydrochloride. Assign 1 to 2 drops 1 to 3 times a day.
Release form: in bottles of 5 ml.
The drug is available in Hungary.
Possible side effects and contraindications when using eye drops with prednisone are the same as when using eye drops with dexamethasone (see).
Ear drops containing 5 mg of 0.025 g of hydrochloride 21 (deoxy-N-methyl-N'-piperazinyl) prednisolone, 0.05 g of ephedrine hydrochloride and 0.025 g of local anesthetic lidocaine are used in otorhinolaryngological practice.
