Medication Description: Lecozim
LEKOZIM (Lecozim) *.
A proteolytic drug obtained (as well as caripazine) from the milky juice of a melon tree (Sarica raraua L.). Like caripazine, it contains papain, chymopapain, peptidases, and lysozyme mucolytic enzyme.
Lyophilized white powder.
Activity is expressed in units of action [FIP U (from Federation International Pharmaceutical and Unit - unit).] Established by the International Federation of Pharmacy (FIP).
The main action of lekozyme is associated with its proteolytic activity, however, there is a specific chondrolitic activity.
Unlike caripazine, lekozyme is used not only topically, but also parenterally.
Lekozim has found application in orthopedic and traumatological practice (with osteochondrosis of the spine, some forms of hernia of intervertebral discs, post-traumatic contractures, for the rehabilitation of fistulas, etc.); in neurosurgical practice (spinal pathology, scar-adhesive changes after injury to peripheral nerves, etc.); in ophthalmic practice (for resorption of exudates, with corneal opacities, sluggish keratitis and uveitis, vitreous opacities, stale hemorrhages in the fundus, etc.). There is evidence of the ability of the drug to delay the development of cataracts. Appoint also with extracapsular cataract extraction.
Apply lekozim in the form of injections, eye drops, electrophoresis methods.
Solutions prepare ex tempore; The contents of the vial are dissolved in 2 ml of sterile water for injection or 0.5% novocaine solution and mixed by shaking. Aqueous solutions remain active for 1 to 3 hours. Upon contact with metals, the drug is rapidly inactivated, therefore, the solution should not be allowed to contact the syringe needle for a long time.
Lekozyme treatment requires great care (especially in ophthalmic practice) regarding the determination of the dose of the drug. Its introduction in the form of injections and eye drops may be accompanied by pain and symptoms of inflammation.
In case of hypersensitivity (itching, fever, etc.), antihistamines are used.
Lekozim is contraindicated in acute inflammatory processes in tissues, infectious diseases, tumors, protrusion of a herniated disc in the spinal canal, pregnancy, severe neurological disorders.
Product form: in hermetically sealed vials in the form of a lyophilized powder with proteolytic activity of 70 FIP U, 10 vials per pack.
Storage: at a temperature of + 2 to + 8 'C. At high temperatures, the drug loses activity.
Aqueous solutions remain active for 1 to 3 hours.
