1 And the Lord said to Moses: go, go from here you and the people that you brought out of the land of Egypt into the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying: I will give it to your seed;
2 and I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Ferezites, the Eveites and the Jebusites,
3 [and he will bring you] to the land where milk and honey flow; for I myself will not go among you, lest I destroy you on the way, because you are a stiff people.
4 The people, hearing this terrible word, sobbed, and no one laid upon themselves their ornaments.
5 For the Lord said to Moses: Say unto the sons of Israel: you are a people of cruelty; if I go among you, I will destroy you in one minute; so take off your ornaments; I will see what I do with you.
6 The sons of Israel took off their ornaments from Mount Horeb.

7 Moses took and set up a tent outside the camp, far from the camp, and called it the tabernacle of the congregation; and everyone who sought the Lord came to the tabernacle of the congregation, which was outside the camp.
eight And when Moses went out to the tabernacle, all the people stood up, and each stood at the entrance to his tent and looked after Moses, until he went into the tabernacle.
nine When Moses entered the tabernacle, then the pillar of cloud came down and stood at the entrance to the tabernacle, and [the Lord] spoke to Moses.
ten And all the people saw a pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tabernacle; and all the people arose, and each worshiped at the entrance to his tent.
eleven And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as if someone spoke to his friend; and he returned to the camp; and his servant Jesus, the son of Nun, a young man, did not go away from the tabernacle.

12 Moses said to the Lord: behold, you tell me: lead this people, and did not reveal to me whom you will send with me, although you said: `` I know you by name, and you have found favor in my sight '';
13 therefore, if I have gained grace in Your eyes, I pray: open your way to me, that I may know You, in order to gain grace in Your eyes; and thought that these people are your people.
fourteen [Lord] said: I myself will go, and will bring you to rest.
fifteen [Moses] said to him: if you do not go yourself [with us], then do not lead us out of here,
16 for why should I know that I and your people have found favor in your eyes? isn't it when you go with us? then I and your people will be more glorious than any people on earth.
17 And the Lord said to Moses: and that which you have spoken, I will do, because you have gained grace in My eyes, and I know you by name.
18 [Moses] said: show me thy glory.
19 And the [Lord] said: I will spend all my glory before you and declare Jehovah's name before you, and whom I have mercy - have mercy, whom I have pity - I will regret.
20 And then He said: You cannot see My face, because a person cannot see Me and stay alive.
21 And the Lord said: Behold, I have a place, stand on this rock;
22 when My glory passes, I will set you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I pass;
23 and when I take off My hand, you will see Me from behind, and My face will not be visible.
