Isaiah 61

Previous chapter Index Next chapter
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, for the Lord has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor, He sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach to the captives the deliverance, and to the prisoners the opening of the prison,
2 to preach the favorable summer of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who lament,
3 to announce to those who complain in Zion that instead of ashes they will be given adornment, instead of crying - oil of joy, instead of a sad spirit - glorious clothing, and they will be called strong truths, the planting of the Lord in His glory.

4 And centuries-old deserts will be built up, ancient ruins will be restored and ruined cities will be renewed, left in desolation from old times.
5 And the foreigners will come and shepherd your flocks; and the sons of strangers [will be] your farmers and your winegrowers.
6 And you will be called the priests of the Lord; the servants of our God will call you; You will enjoy the heritage of the nations and be famous for their glory.
7 For shame you will be doubled; for reproach they will rejoice at their share, because they will receive twice as much in their land; everlasting joy shall be with them.
eight For I, the Lord, love justice, I hate robbery with violence, and I will reward them with truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them;
nine and their seed shall be known among the nations, and their offspring among the nations; all who see them know that they are a seed blessed by the Lord.

ten I will rejoice with joy in the Lord; my soul will be glad in my God; for He clothed me in the vestments of salvation, clothed me with the clothes of truth, as he laid a crown on the bridegroom, and, like a bride, adorned him with decoration.
eleven For as the earth produces its plants, and as the garden sprouts the seed that has been sown in it, so the Lord God will manifest truth and glory in front of all nations.
