Joshua 23

Previous chapter Index Next chapter
one After a long time after the Lord reassured Israel from all his enemies from all sides, Jesus grew old, entered the [advanced] summers.
2 And Jesus called all the [sons] of Israel, their elders, their rulers, their judges and their overseers, and said to them: I have grown old, have entered the [advanced] summers.
3 You have seen everything that the Lord your God has done before your face with all these nations, for the Lord your God himself has fought for you.
4 Behold, I have divided by lot by you these remaining nations into the inheritance of your tribes, all the nations that I have destroyed, from the Jordan to the great sea, to the west of the sun.
5 The Lord your God himself will drive them away from you, and destroy them before you, that you may inherit their land, as the Lord your God told you.
6 Therefore, in all accuracy, try to keep and fulfill everything written in the book of the law of Moses, not evading it to the right or left.
7 Do not communicate with these nations that have remained between you, do not remember the name of their gods, do not swear by [them] and do not serve them and do not worship them,
eight but cling to the Lord your God, as you did to this day.
nine The Lord drove the great and strong nations from you, and no one has stood before you to this day;
ten one of you drives away a thousand, for the Lord your God himself is fighting for you, as he told you.

eleven Therefore, do your best to love the Lord your God.
12 If, however, you turn away and cling to the remaining of these peoples, who are left between you, and enter into kinship with them and will go to them and they to you,
thirteen then know that the Lord your God will not drive these nations away from you, but they will be a loop and a net for you, a scourge for your ribs and a thorn for your eyes, until you are destroyed from this good land that the Lord your God has given you .
fourteen Now, I am now moving on the path of the whole earth. And you know with all your heart and with all your soul that not a single word of all the good words that the Lord your God spoke about you has remained in vain; everything came true for you, not a single word remained unfulfilled.
fifteen But just as every good word that the Lord your God spoke to you has come to pass, so the Lord will fulfill every evil word above you until he destroys you from this good land that the Lord your God has given you.
sixteen If you break the covenant of the Lord your God, which He made with you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, then the wrath of the Lord will kindle on you, and soon you will bend from this good land that [the Lord] has given you.
