Jeremiah 29

1 And here are the words of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the remnants of the elders between the settlers and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people that Nebuchadnezzar brought from Jerusalem to Babylon -
2 after king Jehonia and the queen and the eunuchs, the princes of Judea and Jerusalem, and carpenters and blacksmiths came out of Jerusalem,
3 through Eleasa, the son of Safanov, and Hemariah, the son of Helkine, whom Zedekiah the king of Judea sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon:
4 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the captives whom I resettled from Jerusalem to Babylon:
5 build houses and live [in them], and plant gardens and eat their fruits;
6 take wives and give birth to sons and daughters; and take your wives and daughters to your sons for marriage, that they give birth to sons and daughters, and multiply there, and do not diminish;
7 and take care of the welfare of the city to which I have resettled you, and pray for the Lord for it; for with his well-being there will be peace for you.

eight For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: let not your prophets who are among you, and your fortunetellers deceive you; and do not listen to your dreams that you dream of;
nine they prophesy falsely unto you in my name; I did not send them, says the Lord.
ten For thus says the Lord: when you are seventy years old in Babylon, then I will visit you and fulfill my good word about you to return you to this place.
eleven For [only] I know the intentions that I have about you, says the Lord, intentions for good and not evil, to give you future and hope.
12 And you will call to Me, and go and pray to Me, and I will hear you;
13 and you seek me, and you will find me if you seek me with all your heart.
fourteen And I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will return you from captivity and gather you from all nations and from all the places where I have expelled you, says the Lord, and I will return you to the place from which I resettled you.

fifteen You say: `The Lord raised up prophets for us in Babylon too. '
16 Thus says the Lord about the king seated on the throne of David, and about all the people living in this city, about your brothers who are not taken captive with you, -
17 Thus says the Lord of hosts [about them]: Behold, I will send a sword, a famine, and a pestilence to them, and I will make them like worthless figs that cannot be eaten because of their worth;
18 and I will pursue them with a sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will deliver them to the bitterness of all the kingdoms of the earth, to curse and horror, to ridicule and reproach among all the nations where I will cast them out,
19 because they did not listen to My words, says the Lord, with whom I sent My servants, prophets, to them from the early morning, but they did not listen, says the Lord.
20 And you, all the migrants whom I sent from Jerusalem to Babylon, listen to the word of the Lord:
21 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, about Ahab, the son of Colia, and about Zedekiah, the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy unto you a lie in my name: behold, I will deliver them into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and he will kill them before your eyes.
22 And it will be accepted from them by all the immigrants of Judea who are in Babylon to curse like this: "May the Lord do to you the same as Zedekiah and Ahab," whom the king of Babylon roasted on fire
23 for what they did heinous in Israel: they committed adultery with the wives of their neighbors and spoke a lie in My name, which I did not command them; I know this, and I am a witness, says the Lord.

24 And Shemaiah the Nechelamite say:
25 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: for you sent letters on behalf of yours to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to the priest Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests, and wrote:
26 `The Lord appointed you as a priest instead of the priest Jodai, so that you would be among the guardians in the house of the Lord for every man who is frantic and prophesying, and that you put one in prison and in a pack:
27 why don't you forbid Jeremiah of Anathophia to prophesy from you?
28 For he sent to us in Babylon to say: captivity will be long: build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their fruits. '
29th When Zephaniah the priest read this letter aloud to the prophet Jeremiah,
thirty Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:
31 we went to all the immigrants to say: thus the Lord speaks of Shemaiah the Nechelamite: because Shemaiah prophesies among you, and I did not send him, and falsely reassures you, -
32 for this, saith the Lord: Behold, I will punish the Shemaiah the Nechelamite and his people; there will be no man from him living among this people, and he will not see the good that I will do to my people, says the Lord; for he spoke contrary to the Lord.
