- the state of a darkened consciousness with a complex orientation in a place, time, environment, but preserving the orientation in one’s own personality.
Patients have abundant deceptions of perception (hallucinations) when they see objects that do not exist in reality, people, hear voices. Being absolutely confident in their existence, they cannot distinguish real events from unreal ones, and therefore their behavior is due to delusional interpretation of the environment. There is a strong arousal, there may be fear, horror, aggressive behavior, depending on the hallucinations. Patients in this regard may be dangerous for themselves and others. Upon leaving the delirium, the memory of the experience is preserved, while the actual events that occur may fall out of memory. Delirious state is typical for severe infections, poisoning.
