Senile (seyilny) psychoses
- diseases that occur at a late age in connection with atrophy of the brain. The development of diseases is caused mainly by genetic factors, external influences play only a role that provokes or aggravates the course of the process. The difference in clinical forms is associated with predominant atrophy of certain parts of the cortex and subcortical formations of the brain. Common to all diseases is a slow, gradual, but progressive course leading to a deep decay of mental activity, i.e. to total dementia. There are presenile dementia (Pikai Alzheimer's disease) and senile dementia proper.
